Many of the songs chosen for this album put dreams of romance and stars in my eyes from the time we only had radio, before securing our first black and white television. The blues (torch) songs that are included take me back to my Memphis roots. I was photographed for the cover picture in 1963, resting on the edge of the stage of my high school auditorium, after a rehearsal of Bye Bye Birdie, a musical spoof of our most famous Memphis celebrity. It is black and white; color pictures had not been invented back then!
As a musician, reconnecting with these songs after all these years has reminded me of who I have always been, a dreamer who loves and lives to play piano and sing. The title song, Favorite Love Songs, was inspired by seeing the glint of recognition in the eyes of listeners and this warming experience confirms to me why my heart beats to a different drum. Then, when voices are spontaneously lifted to join in, that old heart of mine truly leaps with happiness! Thus, an additional album of soundtracks has been produced.
Thankfully, these songs are being resurrected by talented young singers of this era, who have reached back in time to acquaint their peers with quality music. May this album of my Favorite Love Songs, Blues & More, bring back memories, but most importantly, may it keep you humming or maybe even singing along with the following secular golden hits of the 30's - 60's!
